Badi Bata 2023-24: Transforming Education in Telangana


The Telangana government has launched an ambitious school enrollment drive called Badi Bata for the academic year 2023-24. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between urban and rural education and provide quality education to all children in the state.   4. Identify eligible children aged 5+ from nearby Anganwadi Centers and enroll them in Class-I of nearby government schools
  5. Update the Village Education Register (VER)
  6. Ensure 100% transition of children from Class 5 to Upper Primary School/High School and from Class 7/8 to High School
  7. Identify schools with low enrollment and develop a special plan to increase the number of students with parental involvement
  8. Identify and enroll out-of-school children according to their age

Mana Ooru Mana Badi / Mana Basti Mana Badi

On the first day of the Badi Bata program, the focus will be on promoting the government’s “Mana Ooru Mana Badi / Mana Basti Mana Badi” initiative. This initiative aims to provide all necessary infrastructure facilities to schools and improve the quality of education. Teachers and School Management Committees (SMCs) should work together to develop an annual action plan for the development of their schools and increase the number of students enrolled.

Introduction of English Medium in Schools

The second day of the program will focus on the introduction of English medium education in government schools. The government will provide bilingual textbooks for Classes II to VIII to facilitate the transition to English medium education. Teachers will also receive training to strengthen their English teaching skills.

Conduct of Parent Teacher Meeting

On the third day, all schools will conduct parent-teacher meetings to discuss the academic progress of their children. Parents will be informed about the various programs and activities being undertaken by the government to improve the quality of education in government schools.

Conduct of SMC Meeting

The fourth day will focus on conducting School Management Committee (SMC) meetings. SMCs play a crucial role in the implementation of the Badi Bata program and are responsible for planning and monitoring various activities. They will also help identify out-of-school children and enroll them in the appropriate classes.

Meeting with Self Help Groups

On the fifth day, schools will hold meetings with Self Help Groups (SHGs) to seek their assistance in identifying and enrolling out-of-school children. SHGs can play a significant role in creating awareness about the importance of education and motivating parents to send their children to government schools.

Girl Education & Career Guidance

The sixth day of the program will focus on the importance of girl education and career guidance. Successful women from various fields will be invited to share their experiences and provide valuable insights to the students. Schools will also be encouraged to organize special events to promote girl education.

Saamoohika Aksharabhyasam

The seventh day will witness the organization of a mass literacy event called “Saamoohika Aksharabhyasam.” This event aims to encourage the enrollment of children in government schools and promote the importance of education among the local community.

Swachh Patashala

On the eighth day, schools will focus on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in their premises. This includes cleaning classrooms, toilets, drinking water facilities, and other common areas. Students and teachers should work together to ensure a clean and healthy learning environment.

Haritha Haram

The ninth day of the program will focus on tree plantation and environmental conservation. Schools will organize tree plantation drives in coordination with local authorities and involve students in the process.

Enrollment of Children with Special Needs (CwSN)

On the tenth and final day, schools will focus on identifying and enrolling children with special needs. The government provides various facilities and support to ensure that these children receive quality education. Schools should make every effort to enroll and retain these children in mainstream education.
